This document covers both the privacy practices and the terms of use for Sonic Mute Sonic ("we", "us", "our"). By signing up for our mailing list or using our website at sonicmutesonic.com, you agree to what is set out below.

1. Privacy

What we collect

When you sign up for our mailing list we collect:

  • Your email address

  • Your name, if you choose to provide it

When you visit the site, we may also collect standard technical data automatically — your IP address, browser type, device type, and how you navigate the page. This data is not linked to your identity and is used only to keep the site running and to understand broadly how people find us.

Why we collect it and our legal basis

We use your email address to send you free sample packs every ten days, as described when you sign up. The legal basis for this under the GDPR is your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw that consent at any time by unsubscribing — every email we send includes an unsubscribe link.

We do not use your data for targeted advertising. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties, except to the email service provider we use to send newsletters (see below).

Third-party processors

We use an email delivery service to send our newsletters. They process your email address on our behalf and are bound by a data processing agreement with us. We do not share your data with any other third parties. In the event we sell or transfer our business, your data would transfer as part of that transaction — you would be notified if this happened.

How long we keep your data

We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. When you unsubscribe, your address is removed from our active list. Residual copies in backups are purged within 30 days.

Cookies and tracking

Our site may use cookies and similar technologies for basic analytics (e.g. Google Analytics). You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Full details are in our Cookie Policy.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you

  • Have inaccurate data corrected

  • Request that we delete your data

  • Withdraw your consent at any time (this does not affect the lawfulness of any processing before withdrawal)

  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Germany, the relevant authority is your local Landesdatenschutzbehörde or the Bundesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit (BfDI)

2. Terms of Use

The service

Sonic Mute Sonic provides original sound design samples via a free mailing list. The site is informational. We do not currently sell anything, though this may change in the future.

Intellectual property

All audio samples, recordings, and creative content distributed by Sonic Mute Sonic are our original work and remain our intellectual property. By receiving samples through our mailing list, you are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use those samples in your own creative projects, including for commercial music, film, games, and performance.

What you may not do:

  • Resell, redistribute, or repackage the samples as sample packs or sound libraries

  • Share the sample files publicly or with third parties

  • Claim the samples as your own original recordings

If you are unsure whether a specific use is permitted, just ask.

Acceptable use

By using the site and mailing list, you agree not to:

  • Provide false information when signing up

  • Use automated tools to scrape or access our content

  • Do anything unlawful or harmful in connection with our services

Changes and availability

We may update, pause, or discontinue the mailing list or website at any time. We have no obligation to give advance notice. We are not liable for any inconvenience caused by downtime or changes.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The samples and website are provided as-is. We make no warranties about their fitness for any particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by German law, we are not liable for any direct or indirect loss or damage arising from your use of our samples or website.

Governing law

These terms are governed by German law. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Berlin, Germany.

We may update this Legal Notice from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top. If changes are significant, we will let subscribers know by email.
